Boxing is a martial art type of sport involving two people of the same weight fighting with their fists. The sport is played by males or females. The game is closely monitored by referee who will determine the person emerging as the victor at the end of the game. The game involves different rounds usually three-minute rounds and there are three ways to win. If one player is knocked out and is unable to get up before the referee counts to ten seconds, the player standing is the winner of the match. If one contender is considered too injured to continue fighting then the other contender is considered the winner. Sometimes the contenders will go round after round without stopping. In this case, the referee will decide on a winner or the judges’ scores will determine the winner. Boxing is still a popular sport today but it was more popular and supported in the late seventies and eighties.
Boxing is an action-packed, anaerobic sport and thus the importance of training and adequate preparation cannot be overlooked. The throwing of punches rapidly round after round while facing an opponent with the same goal in mind is not an easy task. As a result, a boxer must be prepared to fight with intensity and his body must be prepared to keep up with the same intense punches from start to the end of a match. To train effectively, it is important to have the right equipment necessary. One item that significantly helps to prepare a boxer for the ring is a boxing bag.
A boxing bag, also called a punching bag is a special workout tool that boxers use as part of their training in throwing punches and sharpening various punching techniques. It is a very heavy bag, hence it is also called a heavy bag. There are four basic types of boxing bags:

  1. The first bag is the basic type to start out with as it is designed for basic training. The ideal starter bag should be half your body weight.
  2. The next bag is one that weighs twenty pounds less than your basic bag. This bag is used to improve your speed by throwing quick jabs, not hard punches else it will fly all over the place. This is also suitable for children who likes the fun of boxing and may be training with an adult.
  3. The next bag that is needed for training is one that is heavier than the light bag, about 20 pounds more. The purpose of this bag is to build up power punches.
  4. The next bag is geared at getting the boxer advanced. This bag is not bullet-shaped like the others but has a wide, extended upper half bulging out providing a perfect contact point. It is heavier than your first bag and is great for building power-packed punches. It may be a little harder to train with if you are not accustomed to one.
